What is protein? 

 Protein is a macronutrient that forms the building blocks of a human body. Each & every cell is made up of protein including skin,hair,nails,blood,bones & cartilage,muscle etc. Protein contains amino acids. It has many distinct functions thus playing a major role in maintaining a healthy body. 


Functions of protein :

  1.  *Protein is needed for growth & development through the growth hormone,especially in children,teens & pregnant women. 
  2. *Protein produces several hormones including insulin,growth hormone,thyroid stimulating hormone,follicle stimulating hormone,prolactin, etc.Thus protein is needed to keep hormones balanced.
  3. *Our body constantly replaces the old cells with new ones & protein does ths work
  4.  *Protein helps in wound healing by repairing the damaged cells & tissues.
  5.  *Red blood cells contain hemoglobin which is form of protein & this hemoglobin carries oxygen throughout the body tissues thus helping them with needed energy for body functions.
  6.  *It helps in protecting the body from bacterial & viral infections by producing antibodies & thus maintaining immunity.
  7. *It helps the body maintain fluid balance.It produces enzymes that help in digestion & metabolic activity.
  8.  *Protein is needed to have healthy hair,skin & strong nails.
